Signal is a cross-platform encrypted messaging service developed by the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC. It uses the Internet to send one-to-one and group messages, which can include files, voice notes, images and videos. Yes it's just like WhatsApp. We could even use stickers.
It also has a wide support over multiple platforms like Android, Windows, Linux, Mac and even iOS (iPhones & iPads).

The main reason why technical experts trust this application is just because it's code is not a top secret like that of WhatsApp's. Currently WhatsApp is owned by Facebook which was earlier known for several security issues.
If you would like to try out something new but with a very familiar User Interface then it is something worth to try.
